The Imix signifies another world, or another reality. 
 
This symbol is associated with the crocodile, which the Maya believed were liminal creatures that possessed sacred knowledge of the underworld. The purpose of the Imix is to draw knowledge from these other dimensions and manifest them into our waking life. 
 
It is the source of incredible creativity, but it is also the realm of madness and insanity if its power is not properly channeled. Therefore, the Day of the Imix is a time for reverence. To give thanks for life-giving water and to pray that the subconscious mind brings forth clarity, not confusion.
